The media is buzzing about Jesus Camp, an independent, award-winning documentary about a Christian camp in North Dakota that is training children to become leaders in “God’s army.” View the trailer here. Scenes of children wearing military fatigues and discussing their conservative religious views have drawn criticism from many bloggers, who have compared the camp to a Christian version of the Islamic terrorist schools.
In contrast, some evangelicals have defended the children’s dedicated faith, saying their militant language is misinterpreted by non-Christians who don’t understand that their “battle” is spiritual, not physical. Other evangelicals have admitted they don’t know what to make of the camp — they feel obligated to defend their fellow Christians, but they sense that something about this particular camp is “off” — even scary.
In all the talk, I haven’t seen anybody mention this camp’s connection with the “apostolic-prophetic movement” (also known as the “New Apostolic Reformation”). This fast-growing movement has, strangely, gone unnoticed by many evangelicals, even though it has entered many charismatic churches (which are the fastest-growing churches in nearly every region of the world, according to church growth experts, like David B. Barrett).
Becky Fischer, the woman who runs this camp, is a proponent of this movement that believes that God is raising up an end-times army to establish His kingdom on earth, through governmental and societal structures. Proponents of this movement think this army will be led by modern-day apostles and prophets — with supernatural powers, unquestioned authority, and the ability to give new doctrinal revelation. All Christians and nations — and even demonic principalities — must submit to these apostles and prophets. They also teach that the current generation of children have a pivotal role in this army, since they are the last generation of the church.

I have been researching this movement for the past three and a half years and believe it is opening the door to abusive leadership and heretical teachings. I will share more about my concerns in future posts, along with specific examples of troubling teachings and practices.
Many Christians who identify themselves with this movement don’t know about — or they disagree with — its militant and unbiblical teachings and practices. Nevertheless, the movement’s leaders — including some prominent evangelicals — are promoting them through books, conferences and media.
Hopefully, this documentary will, finally, draw attention to this movement.
Spirit of Error 
I whole heartedly agree. Christians cannot afford to endorse anything that is biblically unsound, we’re going to have enough trouble as it is without unsafe teaching passing as what goes for the church these days.
I will try to see this movie – but only so I can defend my faith against those who will seek to tarnish us with the same extremist brush.
I am very surprised to see such reactions to this movement linked to the Fullfilled Prophecy website. Have we all not been learning with great interest the events unfolding in the world around us and how these events relate to scripture? If in fact the second coming of Christ is just around the corner wouldn’t it make sense perhaps that God would want to raise up a new level of leaders and prepare them for this eventuality? Also, isn’t the apostolic one of the five fold ministries as described in the Bible? If the prohpetic movement was and is acceptable why isn’t the apostolic? Lastly, the article simply states that some believe this movement is scary, or militant and repeatedly implies that there are issues to be concerned with yet never cites any specifics. If scripture can support this movement, as our pastor teaches us, regularly, in my church, then I’d like to see what you feel are scriptural references that denounce such a movement. Otherwise it seems to me that some are simply clinging to their “religion” and denouncing anothers belief without trusting the Word as the true guiding light.
To me it’s pretty simple. Kids are really easy to brainwash. There is a reason every army from the dawn of time has gotten young men to go into battle, their minds are malleable.
If watching this clip doesn’t turn your stomach or cause you to question what they are doing, there is little to nothing I or anyone can say to change your mind, only the Holy Spirit can.
Rick Joyner and company and some of these other mind-manipulaters are filling children with visions of worldly glory. I have first hand knowledge of this. They will haul kids in front of “a prophet” who will pump them up with all of “what they will do”…filling them with visions of glory…which is food to a child.
It’s basically this, if you are a prophet, God speaks to you, and you work to do what He wants. You don’t need a cheering section, you don’t need “education on intercessory prayer”…you don’t need all this noise which is used to pump egos into the tasks of their masters.
We are starting to see the divide in the church which will help those who will persecute in the end times.
We have Rick Warren, “why can’t we all get along, but if you don’t agree begone” group, which will link up with others to rid the world of “fundamentalism in all forms”. They will stand in locked-arms with the enemy and not know it to kill and persecute Christians.
We have Christians like those shown in this video giving them fuel, if you can’t see the purposeful similarity between them and the kids of Islam, you are blind.
Meanwhile, those of us walking the narrow path are caught in between.
A friend of mine told me the churches will be full after the rapture, I am really beginning to believe him.

I only read one of the “Prophecies” from Catherine Brown. God is going to take 12 to 24 months what he could do instantly. . .um I am not sure this woman serves the same Jesus I do. Her statement is so imprecise it gives her an instant out if it does not come to pass. We are told if anyone prophecies, and they do not come true that person is false. This prophecy is phrased in a way that is not at all symbolic, and is not definitive. Claiming there will be new revelations, um no there won’t, not from God anyway, they may be things that clarify revelations already given to the Church in the Bible, but not new. Many new revelations and claimed comming signs do not line up with the Bible and are therefore ungodly, and not from the Holy Spirit.

I will look forward to reading what the Lord has put on your heart as you continue with your blog. At first blush, however, it appears that you have made a concrete link between the apostolic movement and dominionism. I would challenge this assertion.
The promotion of dominionism is a true pervision of scripture. I know, however, people who believe that the apostolic gifts are real for today but who have no tie to a dominion type perspective.
While there are without question many who hold both perspectives, it is not an absolute certainity that all will.
Just my thoughts based upon my own experience and relationships.

Interesting blo, but I wasn’t sure of your view initially. I had to read this post and your “about” page twice to really grasp your opinion. Here’s my suggestion: if you’ve got an opinion or a point, then make it. Don’t worry about offending anyone. It’s your site, your blog. Exercise that. Otherwise people will miss your point completely through your subtleties.
Also, you need to substantiate your argument. You said, “Many Christians who associate themselves with this movement don’t know about its militant and unbiblical teachings and practices.” But you left it at that. If the greater message of your blog is that this movement is wrong and/or unbiblical, you need to back that up. You spend 5 paragraphs explaining the movie, but really didn’t tell me why the movement is unbiblical. How can I take your word for it?
You concluded with “Hopefully, this documentary will, finally, draw attention to this movement.” With the exception of the previously mentioned sentence, there is not a single point made in the entire post that tells me one way or the other what kind of attention you want drawn to this movement – positive or negative. If the third sentence from the end of your post was removed, I might be inclined to think you hoped people would be drawn to the movement by the movie.
Take a stand and be clear with your point. You might tick some people off, but at least people will know which side you stand on.
After watching the Trailer and reading some of your post, all I can ask is: Are some of you crazy? In case you forgot the last couple of verses in Math. say to “GO and Make!” Jesus is talking to His army…US. Church’s in America are becoming empty. There is no power of God in the Church anymore. Christianity is one generation away from extinction. We had better reach our Kids. If we don’t someone else will. I really cannot believe that you (in this blog and others) will find fault with raising up an army of young people that love Jesus. Remember He called the little children unto Himself.

It is typical of false teachers that they claim to have a unique revelation that places the historical Church outside of the gates of the Kingdom. The God Who delights inreveal Himself to those who trust and obey has provided all we need in His word, but not just in the reading of the Bible as literature (of course) but in Spirit-led study. Only those who read it with minds and hearts open to the Holy Spirit, asking for revelation of Truth, will be rewarded. We should be teaching our children how to seek God through Spirit-led Bible study instead of choosing sides in opinionated debates.
If people are going to associate this camp with Islamic camps are gravely mistaken. Someone mentioned earlier that the children are being “brain-washed” This is not the case, they are being touched by the Holy Spirit. The prophet Joel said, “in the last days I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh… your son’s and daughters will prophecy… young men will see visions.” Should people flaunt moving of the Holy Spirit like this, maybe not… but the Word of God does say that the miraculous will draw people.
I agree with the person above me… “There are enough attacks on Christianity today. Let’s not be guilty of being against our own brothers and sisters. King David said, “I shall not touch the Lord’s anointed.” The bible clearly warns of touching the Lord’s Anointed, or we will answer to Jesus on judgment day. The Bible also says that we will be judged according to our works, yes Christians will be judged – you can read about it in Revelation-
The bible speaks of the five fold ministry gifts… “Apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, and teachers.” The New Apostolic Reformation is just one facet of these very needed ministries in the Church today. Apostles have been disregarded by the Fundamental church for quite a while… now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against fundamental Christianity, I believe it is very much needed. Yet, we cannot disregard the five fold ministry gifts of the Church. God established them for a reason, to keep the believers in line with the written word of God. Just remember we need to back everything we say up with Scripture. That is our handbook for life and doctrine. I will also say that if you are going to be against this movement, please back up what you say with scripture… I had a hard time believing what you were saying because of lack of scriptural proof to back up these claims. I am a brother in Christ who just wants to help you and just give you my feedback.

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world.: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” Jn.18:36
That is good enough for me. We are to walk by faith and not by sight. Our family spent many years in the Charismatic/ Pentecostal churches. God stripped it from all of us, because it is too easy to manipulate emotions. I have personally experienced supernatural healings/ and had visions and dreams. He has taught me not to look to any of it; though as Satan appears as an angel of light. Again…too easy to manipulate them. God is looking for those who will take Him at His Word.
The Giants of Faith from Hebrews 11 did not receive the promises. They all died in FAITH. I also believe that we are already painted in a “broad, radical, FUNDAMENTAL” brush, and this just gives fuel to the fire.
As a parent, and former homeschooler, God gives ME and my husband the responsibility to train up our children. See Deut. 6. True godliness is integrity, when no one is there to see, or film such as in this documentary.
I would agree with Holly, and Herb, this is dangerous and we should be letting people who have no understanding of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, know that this is NOT what we believe or stand for. It smacks of Dominionism to me….
I’m really not sure what all the hoopla on this is. First, if we are basing our opinions on this organization from what we have seen from a movie trailer, or a blurb from ABC news that is completely unfair.
I attend a very conservative church; I’m sure through creative editing and hours of footage they could make any youth group look like a “lets head for the hills with rifles in hand” militia. I have many brothers and sisters in Christ that attend charismatic churchs. While I agree with Mary above that it is easy to manipulate emotions; I believe that those churches serve a purpose in God’s kingdom. I looked at the statement of faith from the link that Holly provided for this “movement” and I agree with their basic doctrine (Holy Trinity…Must be born again, repentance etc., etc.).
I think many are being too quick to judge this based on the evidence provided. Really people, is it surprising to see the media portraying evangelicals as a group of brainwashed whackos? That side of it I believe is from Satan who is bent on making us look that way. I guess the only disagreement I have is that they allowed a film crew in to record their ministry without having control of how it is being portrayed to the world.
As I stated earlier I attend a very conservative church and I have seen the Holy Spirit moving in a way I have never seen before. As many who read this would agree that we are living in the end times, I believe it is God at work.
I feel the Bible is very clear that whoever is not against us is for us. I quote Mathew 9:38-41:
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
“Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us. I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.
Pretty clear, I think.

As far as brainwashing goes that is a moot point and an unfair statement. Everyone is being “brainwashed” in one way or the other, I have a hard time seeing why it is wrong to teach our children that we serve an all powerful God who loves us and wants to work in our lives, and have a personal relationship with us. The definition of brainwashing is:
“Brainwashing, also known as thought reform or re-education, is the application of coercive techniques to change the beliefs or behavior of one or more people usually for political or religious purposes.”
The definition of Coercion is “Coercion is the practice of compelling a person to involuntarily behave in a certain way.”
This is why I believe it is an unfair term. Scripture does, however, state in Romans 12:2:
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

That being said the last thing we Christians need is MOVIE of militant Christians being blurbed on foreign TVs. I have no problem with feeling the holly spirit. Dressing in Fatigues and showing combat like moves is an visage that will only drive more souls away then save. These images will also cause us to be grouped with the Islamic Militants. Already we see people grouping us Christians together with people that choose to cut peoples heads of on tv, this only gives them gasoline for their fire.

You make some good points with Scripture. However, the verse you quote from Acts 2:17 has already taken place. In fact, if you read this in context, you will see what Peter is referring to
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
First, he says “THIS”, what had happened historically that day on the Day of Pentecost. This does not refer to “future”. Secondly, the context in Joel is within the context of the Day of the Lord. Will there be an outpouring of the Holy Spirit before the Rapture? I used to pray and believe that God would pour out the “latter rain” prior to the Rapture. First of all “the Latter Rain Movement” is part of the THIRD WAVE. It is Dominionism. Then a good Christian friend challenged me to look in the Scriptures to see what they say concerning a great “end time outpouring.” These are the ones I found. They indicate quite the opposite.
1 Tim. 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils
2 Tim. 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
2 Thess. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.
Matt. 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Jesus also said (concerning the Spirit) that he will not speak of himself; but shall glorify Christ. (John 16:13).
Much that is done in church today is done in the name of Christ, but has little to do with Him.

I’m not sure if your retort addresses what I had said earlier.
I believe in the unchanging charector of the God. I don’t believe it was referring only to the day of Pentecost. To say that would be to say that no one during the Church age would be able to prophecy or for that matter be able to receive any of the gifts of the Spirit. The scripture in Acts 2 repeatedly uses the word last “days”; meaning the age of the gentile or the church age. Remember the book of Acts is describing the beginning of the Church (the bride of Christ). I still agree with you that emotions are easily manipulated especially in the charismatic movement. And charismatic churchs are not for everyone (me included).
Now I’m not a Bible scholar but I still stand on the scripture I quoted earlier (Mathew 9:38-41).
My orginal post was to question what the big deal about this movie was.
I do agree with Holly that (in her most recent post) that if the organizers of this camp believe that there are modern day apostles with unquestionable authority and prophets with the ability to give new doctrinal revelation it deserves to be challenged. I just didn’t see it in that clip (perhaps I missed it).

No offense taken. I think we need to earnestly contend for the faith delivered to us from the Apostles. My point was this…..IN CONTEXT, the passage that you are referring to in Acts, Peter says “THIS” (what you see) is the fulfillment of what was said in Joel. I will copy the portion again that shows that this “outpouring” occurs INSIDE the day of the Lord. I believe there is a genuine outpouring coming. It will occur when those who missed the Rapture realize they have been left behind. I am not sure if this will be everyone though, or if Joel’s context speaks to Israel. Here are the verses again.
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
It seems that the outpouring of God’s Spirit upon all flesh happens within the timeframe that these events are occurring.
God is talking here about the future judgment and restoration of Judah. Any work of the Holy Spirit in this age is to convict of sin and bring individuals to repentance.
One day in 2001, after I just finished reading John McTernan’s book, “God’s FInal Warning to America”, I began to intercede and cry out for revival for America. He gave me Jeremiah 14, 15. Basically, the Lord was saying that because of her sin, America must be judged. The Scriptures make if very clear that in the end times, there will be a great falling away from the faith….not revival.

I have not seen “Jesus Camp” or it’s trailer. I really dont know what the “Apostolic-Prophetic Movement” is, but I do know this: The Holy Spirit, sent in Jesus Christ’s name, is awesome, and is the only Power and Authority. Im a Holy Bible Christian who follow’s the word of God.

The Holy Spirit, as a Person of the Trinity, is, indeed, awesome. However, the only name and authority that we Christians are given is that of Jesus, not the Holy Spirit.
According to the Bible, the Holy Spirit always glorifies Jesus; the Holy Spirit doesn’t draw attention to Himself, but to Jesus (John 16:12-14). Likewise, the Holy Spirit doesn’t point to apostles and prophets, but to Jesus.
Also, the Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible; yet, in this movement, revelation from modern apostles and prophets is promoted to a degree that Scripture is, necessarily, diminished. And, according to Rev. 19:10, the purpose of prophecy is to glorify Jesus, not apostles and prophets, new moves of the Spirit, etc.
I believe the true operation of the Holy Spirit in a ministry is in direct correlation to how much that ministry points people to Jesus and how much that ministry reveres God’s Word. Yet, in the apostolic-prophetic movement, much of the emphasis is apostles, prophets, new revelation, and an end-times army of saints. These didn’t seem to be the emphases of the original apostles and prophets.

In the Old Testament, when a person came into the Presence of God, they fell prostrate before Him. (Josh 5:14; Eze. 1:28; Dan. 8:17; Lu. 17:16, etc.)
I spent many years in a Charismatic denomination which put empasis on being slain in the Spirit, miracles, healings, etc. I myself, have been supernaturally healed and experienced other miracles. I am not speaking against the Spirit of God in the fact that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever; HOWEVER, having said that, Jesus has taught me that it is IMPERATIVE in the time we live in to “Test the Spirits” and to TRUST only in His Word.
In all the years I was in the Charismatic churches, I never saw one person ever fall forward. They almost always fell backward. If we look to Scripture the only example I can think of right now of people falling backward is in John 18:6, when the chief priests and Pharisees came to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The Bible says,
“As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went BACKWARD, and FELL TO THE GROUND.”
Question: Were these chief priests and Pharisees “slain in the spirit”?
Certainly they were not opening their hearts to Jesus, as they came to arrest Him. So one might say they were in rebellion toward Him, and certainly did not cry out to Him for Salvation.
Take for instance the Toronto/ Brownsville movements. Shaking, laughing, barking etc….is NOT of the Holy Spirit. God is the God of ORDER, NOT confusion.

When one repeats a phrase over and over again, they can actually go into an altered state of consciousness. True believers that are not discerning can actually open themselves up to “other spirits” that are demonic.
In our experience, we had an older lady in one church we attended that worked with the youth. She would “see” a “cloud” roll into the back of the church when she had her “alter” time. She would put her hands on our daughter and try to forcible push her back, so she would “feel Jesus” and be “slain in the spirit”.
God has stripped us from an “emotional experience” and we now attend a church that some of our former acquaintances have said, “But they don’t believe in the Holy Spirit.” To which I replied “Yes, they do. They pray and believe God still heals today, they just don’t focus on “Holy Spirit this” and “Holy Spirit that”. God’s Presence is very real in this church and the body is growing.
Those who are looking for “moves” of God or “experiences” can be easily led astray. It is best to stand on His Word.

Scripture is very clear that in the last days there shall be a great falling away, not a great revival. Nowhere do I read in the Bible that Apostles and Prophets (or pastors, or ANYONE other than Christ Himself) has unquestioned authority. I read in Ephesians that CHRIST is the Head to ALL things to the Church.
All Believers are to be led by the Holy Ghost, and the Scriptures. John even says in his Epistle that any MAN that seeks to override the leading (unction) of the Holy Ghost in your life is the spirit of Anti-Christ, or “false anointing.” I dare say this can also be true of those that have extra-biblical revelation that contradicts the Bible, for they place their word ABOVE the Word of God!
Jesus says in John’s Gospel the 15th chapter that if men fail to abide in Him (Christ) and in His Word (the Bible) then a man will be as a dried up branch, and the Father will pluck him from the tree (Christ.) He will then be gathered by MEN and BURNED.
My conclusion: if a Believer rejects the leading of the Holy Ghost, and won’t follow the Bible, there is an army of wolves out there (all claiming to have “unquestioned authority” something mentioned nowhere in the Bible that I’m aware of) ready to leap in, “play God” in your life…and drag your soul to Hell with false doctrines.
Remember, even Messiah said that the day will come when there be those that seek to kill you (His disciples) will do so fully persuaded they are doing God service.
Brethren…PRAY! Fast, worship Him, READ THE BIBLE! Don’t let any MAN “take authority” over your life, for such are committing the original sin of Satan…they want to be God and lord it over others. Jesus told the Pharisees, “You are of your father, Satan, and Satan’s lusts do you do.”
These have the same desire as the devil…to BE GOD and lord it over others for their own selfish gain (claiming they are obeying God!)
And remember the Word of God…Jesus said in the kingdoms of the heathen (those that know not God) all seek to dominate and lord it over others (Satan’s desire again) but in Christ’s Kingdom is shall NOT be so. He who seeks great approval from God must be the SERVANT (not master) of all. For even Christ came to SERVE not to be served!
Those that demand slavish devotion, insist they have “unquestioned authority” are motivated by Satan, are wolves seeking to feed their own ravenous lusts by raping and fleecing the flock, are “playing God”, are over inflated with pride and ego with their own importance…and per the words of John…are ANTI-CHRIST!
And my personal experience with such men and women is they are ALWAYS hostile to everything the Holy Ghost (and the Bible) have plainly taught me.
Always. They hate God. Period.
They are the enemies of God, clouds without water (false promise bearers) cruel tyrants and opposed to the true Faith.
Which is to say…they are the ringleaders of the “Great Falling Away” that must occur before His Return.
And if you follow them, rejected the leading of God by His Spirit and Word…you will be gathered up as dry branches and burned.
As in, “Depart from Me, be cast into the Lake of Fire prepared to the devil and his angels, for I swear, I never knew you.”
Not my opinion…it’s what the Bible says.
Christ is the head of ALL things to the church (Believers). All means all. So why do these “Apostles” insist they are not under His Headship? Why do they reject the leading of the Holy Ghost and angrily declare as a heretic anyone that sticks to what the Bible says?
Because they want to tear God off His throne so they can be God?
“You are of your father, the devil, and his lusts shall you do,” Jesus said. “But in My Kingdom, the greatest shall be the least servant of all.”

I just came across your blog for the first time tonight. I am enjoying your posts and will definitely continue visiting. The only suggestion I would like to mention would be to see more biblical backing on your opinions. I think it would greatly assist in aiding understanding.
I read the article about the Jesus Camp movie. I saw the movie earlier this year. I really didn’t know what to think of it, but I know it made me uncomfortable. I think the most dramatic scene for me was watching children take a hammer and pound away at various items (I can’t remember what they were hammering). I understood it represented freedom from the bondage of sin, but it was still hard to watch, it almost seemed eerie. I don’t know, that’s just my opinion.
Anyway, keep up the work and I look forward to reading your future posts! May God Bless and Keep All!!
